Britains sporting spectacular in 2013

The heat won’t be quite as intense as we’ve had this summer but when the days get shorter in Australia the UK welcomes another season of sport to their isles and there is plenty for we Aussies to follow.

The two main events of the 2013 British calendar are the Open golf championship, which begins in late July and attracts thousands of fans from across the world; before the rivalry to beat all rivalries gets underway as Australia tour England in the Ashes.

There are plenty of reasons to follow the British summer of sport and in the Open Australians will once again back Adam Scott – the unluckiest man in golf after he made headlines in the golf betting news by crumbling to lose a four-shot lead over Ernie Els at the tournament last year. For Scott, he may never get a better chance at wining a major yet the Adelaide-born golfer will head into Muirfield Links, Gullane, with real determination to overcome his demons.

Fans who bet on golf with bet365 expect big things from this 32-year-old, who carded 75 on the final day at Royal Lytham and St Annes to see his dreams fade in an instant.

Another sport in which we could do with some redemption is cricket, where England poached a 3-1 series victory over Michael Clarke’s team in 2010/11 to retain the Ashes. England host five gruelling matches to decide the 2013 Ashes winners and the third Test at Old Trafford will prove the pivotal mark for who will win the famous Urn.

Clarke has a new-look side from the last time Australia faced England and after a record-breaking year in 2012 will come up against the world’s second best batsman at the moment: Alastair Cook.

With the Open and Ashes to play for this summer, ausgolf are offering a tour package for fans wanting to get a piece of the action over June and July. You may have to bring a raincoat – this is Britain after all – but it will be well worth it on the Jug & Urn Tour.
