Malnati ends eight year drought on PGA Tour

Mar 25, 2024

You’d be forgiven to ask Peter who? The USA’s 36 year old Peter Malnati has captured his second career PGA TOUR win in his 259th start at 36 years, 9 months, 11 days, snapping a winless streak of 3,059 days (or 8 years, 4 months, 16 days) on the PGA TOUR.
His #184 ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking is the second-highest by a Valspar Championship winner since 2008 (205th by Kevin Streelman in 2013).
Second placed Cameron Young (US) was the lone player in the field to card four rounds in the 60s, earning his seventh runner-up finish on the PGA TOUR, the most without a win since 1983.
The highest ranked player in the field, World #4 Xander Schauffler put in a good performance sharing T5 with three other players. Chandler Phillips (US) and Mackenzie Hughes (CAN) finished T3.
With the Masters only 3 weeks away, only three Aussies teed up with Aaron Baddeley the best placed in T17. Harrison Endycott and Min Woo Lee missed the cut that was set at even par with +6 and +7 two round totals.
Prior to The Masters, the Tour heads to Texas for the next fortnight, with the Texas Children’s Houston Open followed the Valero Texas Open sure to attract strong fields, with players sharpening their game before Augusta. Both events carry a purse in excess of USD$9m.
