Not even the weather could stop Cameron Smith at the Australian PGA at Royal Queensland on the weekend. Starting the final round three shots ahead of a talent laden pack of local and overseas golfers, it looked like Smith might romp away. However he stumbled on the front nine and after a bogey at the 11th he shared the lead.
Then came the storms. After two substantial rain delays that threatened to extend the event into a fifth day, the skies cleared and Smith trotted back out and showed why he was the highest ranked player in the field. He closed out the back nine with 3 birdies and leapt to -14, three shots ahead of the chasing pack.
That made three Australian PGA’s for Smith as he now looks to add this year’s Australian Open to his five Tour victories in 2022.
