World #3 Minjee Lee and World #20 Hannah Green have put in solid performances in the lead up event to this week’s major – the US PGA Women’s Open. At the Meijer LPGA Classic at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, MI, America’s Jennifer Kupcho prevailed in a three way playoff over Italy’s Leona Maguire and Nelly Korda. Maguire shot an incredible final round seven under (65) to grab the clubhouse lead and waited as Korda and then Kupcho joined her at -18.
On the first playoff hole it looked all but over when Kupcho hit her second shot to just 3 feet for an eagle putt. However she lipped out and Maguire made birdie while Korda dropped out after three putting.
After making their way to the second playoff hole, both players hit good approaches and had short putts. Kupcho made hers with Maguire missing to hand Kupcho her second career title.
Australia’s Hannah Green finished T12 and Minjee Lee T18 in a great warm up for this week’s US PGA major championship played at the Congressional Country Club (Blue Course) in Bethesda, MD. Su Oh finished T32 and Katherine Kirk T64 in other solid performances by Australian women.
Hannah Green will be looking to emulate her victory in 2019 with a solid group of fellow countrywomen including Sarah Kemp, Katherine Kirk, Stephanie Kyriakou, Minjee Lee, Su Oh and Sarah Jane Smith.
Nelly Korda is defending champion.
