Rory McIlroy won his 26th career title at the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship, played at the Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Starting the day in the final grouping and one shot behind Xander Schauffler, Rory sizzled around the difficult course with a sizzling round of 65 despite a double bogey at the final hole. Schauffler could only post a 71 to finish 5 shots adrift, with Byeong Hun An a further three shots back (-9) to finish in 3rd spot.
Australia’s Jason Day had a great tournament finishing T4 with Sungjae Im on (-6).
Adam Scott finished T29 and compatriot Cam Davis T38. All three will carry good form into this week’s US PGA at Valhalla. They’ll be joined by Min Woo Lee and LIV’s Cam Smith.
McIlroy played holes 8-15 in his final round in 8-under par (birdies at 8, 9, 13, 14, and eagles at Nos. 10, 15) on his way to the low round of the day. It was the seventh round of 65 or better in the final round of a Wells Fargo Championship (62/McIlroy/2010, 65/six players).
The victory sees McIlroy Rise to #4 in the FedExCup standings, trailing #1 Scottie Scheffler, #2 Xander Schauffler, and #3 Wyndham Clark.
