Adam Scott’s Chances of Returning to the Winners Circle in 2025

Adam Scott is not receiving adequate recognition for his age-defying performance in the 2024 season—and his additional potential for 2025. Given his nearly continuous presence at the pinnacle of professional golf since the commencement of the 21st century, it is occasionally easy to underestimate Adam Scott's sports accomplishments. Indeed, there is little he has not accomplished.

An accomplished champion and former World No. 1, the Australian boasts a Players Championship and a World Cup victory, along with triumphs across five circuits: the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, the Asian Tour, the South African Sunshine Tour, and the Australasian Tour.

25 Years of Relevance

At 44 years old, the eldest competitor in the 50-member field assembled in San Diego for the Genesis Invitational this past weekend (he concluded in a tie for 39th place) continues to perform effectively. Although his concluding standing at Torrey Pines was suboptimal, Scott is poised to conclude a season during which he has ascended from 44 to 25 in the Official World Golf Ranking between 2024 and 2025; a remarkable feat at a juncture in professional sports when most players are experiencing an unavoidable fall.

Adam's record is quite extraordinary. One could argue that Sam Snead is the greatest golfer of all time due to his prolonged period of excellence surpassing that of any other player. Adam belongs to a comparable category. For the past 25 years, he has consistently remained pertinent in tournaments. He continues to improve. For many, Sergio Garcia has been the preeminent driver of the ball during the Tiger Woods era.

Last season, Scott exhibited a considerable level of skill in golf, performing well and nearly achieving greatness. However, he did not secure a tournament victory. His nearest attempts at winning include the runner-up positions at both the BMW Championship and the Genesis Scottish Open and six other top-10 performances, including one at the Open Championship. Thus, he sustains competitiveness at the pinnacle level.

Scott & the Players Championship Odds

At contemplative periods, Scott possesses numerous accomplishments to take pride in. His game has consistently performed admirably across several venues. The inaugural and thus far sole Australian to secure the Masters title, the Queenslander, originally from South Australia, also has a Players Championship and a World Cup triumph with compatriot Jason Day.

With another Players’ Championship just around the corner (March 2025), could Scott be a live underdog and make his return to the winner's circle?

Of course, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas sit atop the current sportsbook odds to win the Players Championship 2025, but are we overlooking Scott, a former winner of this event, and his potential on the best betting apps whose current price is a whopping 59/1?

Scott Believes 2025 Could Be His Best Year

Given the aforementioned successes we’ve highlighted, it is unsurprising that Scott is a former World No. 1 and was appointed a “Member of the Order of Australia” in 2022 for his “significant service to golf at the elite level.”

Better yet, and despite going winless in 2024, he is far from finished. Scott believes that he can be highly competitive in major events for at least two more years with sufficient distance off the tee and the necessary motivation.

"I agree with many things that make me think I can be better. I'm fast, which is very important in today's game,” Scott said. “And I haven't hurt myself in a long time. I use a lot of good information in stats as a tool. One thing does stand out, though, and it's not a good thing. From 120 to 170 yards, there is much room to improve.

"I think I can have my best year next year. I don't know what it was, but 2024 was kind of a comeback year. It's given me a reason to be really optimistic about 2025. Really, the next two years. As long as I stay focused and sure of myself, I should be able to win competitions.”

Winning the Australian Open again…

Of all the competitions Scott could win in 2025, his return to the winner's circle wouldn’t be sweeter than claiming a title on home turf.

Scott continues to be a man with lofty ambitions and a high-achieving individual. David Graham, a former PGA, and U.S. Open champion is the only Australian to have won more than one of the four majors. Therefore, that is an apparent objective.

“We are all judged by how well we play in the big leagues,” Scott commented. “That's not likely to happen. But it would be great to win more than one major. I have a big dream: I want to win the career Grand Slam. That's just three events, but they are the right three.

“I wish I could win the Australian Open again. I wanted to play this year (2024) but had already been on many trips. I'm worn out. Going there would add two weeks to a year, which is already very long. This is the end of my season. I hope this will allow me to play well in 2025.”

Based on the evidence of his 2024 performance, experience, and solid confidence, it is highly probable that he will be live to win the Australian Open 2025 or, at least, a major trophy on this year’s PGA schedule.
