The Anglesea Golf Club is in the beautiful Heathland on the Great Ocean Road and 1.5 hours’ drive from Melbourne. The Vern Morcom designed golf course has a challenging layout, set in natural bushland. Anglesea is a course with an international reputation as one of the country’s most beautiful and uniquely Australian golf courses.
Not only is the course itself both challenging and enjoyable for both seasoned professionals and beginners, but it is set among some of the most stunning rural landscape in the country.
Additionally, golfers and visitors can share the beauty of the course with the many kangaroos that inhabit its environs. Many of the fairways border one of the region’s many nature reserves. This provides a natural sanctuary and habitat for the kangaroos who can be seen grazing around the course at all times of day but especially tend to congregate in the evenings.
The Anglesea Golf Club was established on January 28, 1950 and its history tells of land purchases, acquisitions and refurbishment over the years. In the 1990s the fairways were transformed with Wintergreen Couch and in 2000, recycled water was connected. Recent installations include a 6 Bay driving range and 18-hole mini golf course.
The 1st nine holes (designed by Vern Morcom) were opened in December 1953. The 2nd nine holes opened in April 1961, completing a course with a par 72 rating. Acquisition of further land in 1962 saw the 1st nine holes redesigned and completed in 1968, resulting in a current rating of 73.
The course has 42 bunkers, 3 practice fairways, 2 practice putting greens and a 6-bay driving range.
Our club pro is on hand with his team of team of talented and friendly assistants to provide coaching and experience for those seeking to compete at the highest levels to those who just enjoy a round or two with friends.
The Clubhouse is open 7 days a week. Lunch is served between 12noon and 3pm and dinner from 5.30pm to 8.00pm. The Clubhouse and outdoor deck boast a magnificent view down the 18th Fairway. Following an extensive refurbishment in 2019, it now offers the absolute best in amenities, from an elegant and spacious bistro and bar to function facilities that can cater for events of up to 80 people at a time, from weddings to sports presentation, to birthdays and anniversaries and everything in between. The Bistro at Anglesea Golf Club is the perfect place to relax with friends and family over a sumptuous meal offering lunch and dinner 7 days per week.
Our adjoining bushland and fairways are home to hundreds of Eastern Grey Kangaroos.
It’s little wonder that Australia’s most recognised national symbol – the kangaroo – is so closely tied to the identity of the Anglesea Golf Club. Our internationally renowned mobs of the Eastern Grey kangaroo have been part of the landscape at Anglesea for thousands of years.
They roam across our immaculately kept fairways and greens, and, perhaps surprisingly, this unusual combination of grazing wildlife, greenkeeping and golf balls works extremely well. During the past 70 or so years, our kangaroos have grown accustomed to the constant activity and the number of strolling or motor-driven golfers passing by.
Our experienced staff will do everything to ensure that your visit to Anglesea Gold Club is both a rewarding and satisfying experience, as well as being a lot of fun. We invite you to come on in, whether as a playing member, a non-playing member, a visitor, or a guest. You’ll find us friendly, sociable, and ready for a laugh or two.
Whether it’s for a round of golf, a round or two at the bar or a meal in the bistro with your family and friends, you’ll always find a big-hearted welcome and a smile at Anglesea Golf Club.
