THE HISTORY
The history of The Eastern Golf Club dates back to 1896 when the Surrey Hills Golf Club was formed at Mont Albert. This Club was disbanded in 1914 at the outbreak of the war and at about this time a small group of friends leased the property "Tullamore" in Doncaster and decided to form The Eastern Golf Club.  An 18 hole course was laid out amid the surrounding orchard by the leading golf architect of the day, Sam Berriman.  In 1924 the Committee took over the assets of the Box Hill Golf Club and re-established it at Tullamore under the name of The Eastern Golf Club.  Mr. Stanley Bruce, the Prime Minister of the day, officially opened the Club on the 10th June 1924. In 1941 the then Eastern Golf Club moved to a new course at East Oakleigh, having purchased land from the Melbourne Hunt Club, and formed Huntingdale Golf Club. The Eastern Golf Club was reformed in 1944 in Doncaster.
eastern shark watersOn July 1, 2015 The Eastern Golf Club moved to its new course in Yering, located within Melbourne’s famous Yarra Valley.
The Eastern Golf Club has taken the traditional ‘golf club’ environment to new heights, creating a destination experience appealing to golfers and non-golfers in the heart of Melbourne’s food and wine playground – the Yarra Valley.
In selecting the stunning setting of Yering Gorge, where bushland intersects with the Yarra River against the backdrop of the Christmas Hills and Dividing Ranges, Eastern Golf Club’s vision has been to establish a beautiful country estate within the peaceful environment of the Yarra Valley, whilst respecting the informal character and rich traditions of the Club that date back to 1896.
With a philosophy to create an environment that would be in harmony with the broader landscape, The Eastern Golf Club commissioned Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD) to design the 27 hole championship standard course plus Shark Waters - our 9 hole, par 3, course. Recognised as an industry leader in promoting the compatibility of golf courses with the environment, Norman has created a course that is complementary to the existing topography whilst ensuring the spectacular natural features and dramatic views are maximised to enrich the playing experience.
On October, 16, 2015 The Eastern Golf Club new course in Yering was officially opened by Greg Norman AO.
