Are we seeing the next golfing superstar rise before our eyes? Jackson Koivun is just 21 years of age and he’s beat a crack field at the 2026 3M Open to win his first PGA Tour event at just his 13th start. That makes him the seventh youngest Tour winner in the past decade, but how he did it is even more impressive. By virtue of his three stroke victory, it makes him the second youngest American to win by multiple strokes in PGA Tour history. Ralph Guldahl was only 20 years and two months old when he won the 1932 WM Pheonix Open and he holds the record, now followed by Koivun. And Koivun didn’t knock just anybody out of second place – he shunted the one and only Tiger Woods (see table below).

Koiven entered the final round with a three-stroke lead, carding a bogey-free 66 to claim the three-stroke win over World number 1 Scottie Scheffler.

He also set the 72-hole tournament scoring record for the 3M Open, topping Lee Hodges’ 260 (-24) in 2023. He recorded bogey free in three of four rounds this week (R1/64, R3/61, R4/66)

Prior to turning professional, he spent 56 consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 in World Amateur Golf Ranking, the third-longest reign in history, only behind Keita Nakajima (87 weeks) and Jon Rahm (60 weeks)

Koiven made 10 starts as an amateur on TOUR, which included a stretch of four consecutive finishes of T11 or better (2025 John Deere Classic/T11, 2025 ISCO Championship/T6, 2025 Wyndham Championship/T5, 2025 Procore Championship/T4) and he became the first player in collegiate golf history to win all three Player of the Year awards (Haskins, Hogan, Nicklaus) twice – first as a freshman in 2024 and again as a junior in 2026.

Scottie Scheffler (2nd/-22) entered the final-round six shots behind and carded a bogey-free 63 to finish solo-second, his fifth runner-up finish this season. It was Scheffler’s 15th runner-up and 87th top-10 in 167 career starts on TOUR; 2026 FedExCup leader increases his lead in the standings, 794 points ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick; leads all players with 11 top-five finishes this season (next best: 7, Matt Fitzpatrick)

Hideki Matsuyama (T3/-20) followed his first-round 70 with rounds of 65-65-64 to clinch his third top-10 finish of the season, carding a 6-under 30 on the back nine in the final round, highlighted by a birdie-eagle finish.

After bogeying the final hole of the first round, Brian Harman (T3/-20) played the final 54 holes bogey free to earn his first top-10 since the 2025 Open Championship (T10).

Chandler Phillips (T3/-20) recorded his best finish of the season and climbs from 103rd to 86th in the FedExCup standings.

Denny McCarthy (T3/-20) birdies three of his final four holes and earns his best finish on TOUR since the 2024.

Michael Kim (T10/-17) followed his second-round 59 with rounds of 69 and 70 to secure his second top-10 this season and first since the Valero Texas Open (T2).

Jake Knapp (T13/-16) carded the low round of the final day, a 9-under 62, including an 8-under 28 on the back nine, tying his low round this season.

Aussies Kark Vilips and Cameron Davis were our only representatives and both failed to make the cut.
