Despite holding a four shot buffer entering the final round of the penultimate FedExCup Playoff event The BMW Championship, Scotland’s Robert McIntyre was unable to derail the Scottie Scheffler express. While McIntyre stumbled to a final round 73, Scheffler oozed class and composure on his way to a fine 67, to take out the title on -15 by two shots.
The unstoppable World No. 1 and FedExCup leader picked up his 18th PGA TOUR win in his 148th start, moving to T46 on the all-time wins list. He enters the TOUR Championship No. 1 in the FedExCup standings for the fourth consecutive year as he attempts to become the first back-to-back FedExCup champion.
It was Scheffler’s second-largest come-from-behind win of his career and a TOUR-best fifth win of the season (THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, PGA Championship, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, The Open Championship, BMW Championship). It’s the second season Scheffler has had five or more wins (2024/7, 2025/5) and he becomes the first player since Tiger Woods (2005-2007) to record five or more wins in back-to-back seasons.
For MacIntyre (2nd/-13), the two-time PGA TOUR winner finishes runner-up for the third time in 76 starts (2023 Genesis Scottish Open, 2025 U.S. Open, 2025 BMW Championship). He was seeking to join Scottie Scheffler (THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson) as the season’s only wire-to-wire winner, but it wasn’t to be.
Maverick McNealy (3rd) advances to the TOUR Championship for the first time in his sixth season on TOUR, while Tommy Fleetwood (T4) earns his sixth top-five finish of the season, second only to Scottie Scheffler’s 10 and he records his 44th top-10 finish in his 163rd start, the most of any player without a win on TOUR since 1983.
Five-time PGA TOUR winner and 2024 BMW Championship runner-up Sam Burns finishes T4.
As far as movement in and out of the Top 30 (players in the Top 30 in the standings play in the TOUR Championship), only Harry Hall squeezed in after starting #45. His 6th place saw him rise to #26 in the standings. Conversely Lucas Glover began in 30th spot, finished T40 and dropped out of the race (#36).
Sadly Jason Day, after an encouraging start early in the week that saw him in the Top 10, finished 44th in the BMW after beginning the event in 37th spot. He was the last Australian in the Playoffs and he won’t tee up in the final.
Three-time FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy finished T12, defending BMW Championship winner Keegan Bradley was T17 and last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship winner Justin Rose finished T30.
