The Presidents Cup is upon us and three Aussies, Adam Scott, Jason Day and Min Woo Lee will represent the International Team. The Presidents Cup was most recently played at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina in September 2022 with the United States Team defeating the International Team, 17½-12½, to win its ninth straight Cup. Xander Schauffele earned the clinching point, putting the U.S. ahead 15½ - 9½ with a 1-up victory over Canada's Corey Conners in Sunday Singles.
The 15th edition of the Presidents Cup will be played at The Royal Montreal Golf Club for the second time and first since 2007 when the U.S. Team defeated the International Team 19½-14½. Both 2024 captains were playing members of their respective teams, when notably Canada's Mike Weir posted a team-best 3-1-1 record, including a 1-up Singles victory over World No. 1 Tiger Woods. The International Team includes three Canadians, each who received a captain's pick: Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes and Taylor Pendrith. Conners and Pendrith made their Presidents Cup debuts in 2022, combining for a 0-8-0 record, while Hughes will be a rookie in 2024. The only other time in Presidents Cup history in which there has been multiple Canadians competing was in 2022. The Royal Montreal Golf Club has hosted the RBC Canadian Open 10 times, most recently in 2014 (won by South Africa's Tim Clark; Jim Furyk finished runner-up). Conners (MC) and Pendrith (T43) competed in the 2014 RBC Canadian Open at Royal Montreal as amateurs.
After a record-setting 14 players made their Presidents Cup debuts in 2022, only six players will be doing so in 2024, which is tied for third fewest all time. There are four rookies on the U.S. Team: Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Russell Henley and Sahith Theegala. Clark and Harman made their first international team appearance at the 2023 Ryder Cup, while this will be the first team event for Henley and Theegala. Canada's Mackenzie Hughes and Australia's Min Woo Lee are the only two rookies on the International Team.
Adam Scott will make his 11th career appearance in the Presidents Cup, the second-most by any player all time (12, Phil Mickelson). Scott has played 49 matches, the second-most of any player (55, Phil Mickelson). International Team members Hideki Matsuyama (6) and Jason Day (5), join Scott as the only three players among either team with more than four appearances. The most veteran members of the U.S. Team include Patrick Cantlay (2019, 2022, 2024), Tony Finau (2019, 2022, 2024) and Xander Schauffele (2019, 2022, 2024).
2024 FedExCup Champion and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler made his Presidents Cup debut in 2022, posting a 0-3-1 record. Combined with two appearances in the Ryder Cup (2021, 2023), Scheffler owns a 2-5-4 record in international team competition.
Hideki Matsuyama (Japan) will make his sixth Presidents Cup start as the highest ranked member of the International Team (No. 7). Matsuyama won twice in 2024 (The Genesis Invitational, FedEx St. Jude Championship), moving his total TOUR wins to 10, the most by any player from Asia (next: 8, K.J. Choi, South Korea).
Jason Day (Australia) will make his fifth start in the Presidents Cup for the Internationals, and first since 2017. Day was a captain's pick in 2019 (Royal Melbourne) but was forced to withdraw due to a back injury (replaced by South Korea's Byeong Hun An). Since failing to qualify or be picked for the 2022 Presidents Cup (Quail Hollow Club), Day has recorded 12 top-10s on TOUR, including a victory at the 2023 CJ CUP BYRON NELSON, his 13th career TOUR title and first in more than five years.
Eight of the 12 U.S. Team players competed in the 2023 Ryder Cup, while six of those eight also played in the 2022 Presidents Cup: Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler. Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman also represented the U.S. at the 2023 Ryder Cup and are making their Presidents Cup debuts.
Australia's Min Woo Lee will make his first international team appearance in his first full season as a PGA TOUR member. Lee has two career runner-ups on TOUR: T2/2024 Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, T2/2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic. At age 26, Lee is the second-youngest player on the International Team (22, Tom Kim) and is one of two players born in 1998 (other: Sungjae Im), the year the Internationals won the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne in Australia.
Captain’s pick Keegan Bradley returns to the Presidents Cup for the second time (2013). The 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup captain – who was previously named one of Jim Furyk’s captain’s assistants and replaced by Brandt Snedeker – won the BMW Championship during the FedExCup Playoffs to move inside the top 10 in the U.S. Team standings and receive a captain’s pick.
Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele have played seven matches together in the Presidents Cup, tied with Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen (International) for the second-most of any pair in tournament history. They can tie or surpass Fred Couples and Davis Love III (8, United States) this week.
